Regimental Museum - Brecon

The Royal Welsh is Wales's infantry regiment. It has inherited a distinguished military tradition from its predecessors: The Royal Welch Fusiliers (23rd Foot) and The Royal Regiment of Wales (formerly the 24th, 41st and 69th Foot - and later the South Wales Borderers, Welch Regiment and Monmouthshire Regiment).

Great place to visit, especially if interested in anything military.

10am-5pm

Saturdays:

Y Gaer in Brecon

Powys County Council has announced the following opening hours for y Gaer

  • Monday – closed

  • Tuesday – 10.00am – 4pm

  • Wednesday – closed

  • Thursday – 10.00am –4.00pm

  • Friday – 10.00am – 4.00pm

  • Saturday – 10.00am – 4.00pm

  • Sunday – closed (should be open from June 1st 2021)

Powys County Council state that ‘Opening hours and usage patterns will be reviewed during 2020, to make sure that they meet community needs as far as possible within existing budgets.’  The Society and other representative bodies on the y Gaer Stakeholder Group have emphasised the importance and benefits to both the local community and visitors of opening more days a week, particularly Sunday.  We are hopeful that the case for this can be agreed following the initial opening period, when Powys CC staff and y Gaer volunteers settled in and the overall operational budget is clearer.
